Final Project

The Head Start curriculum, which is WeCan, contains the theme Farm, Ranch, and Dairy. The video that I created is in reference to this theme. Part of the theme is that the students need to name at least two animals that we get food from. I decided to do it on chickens and cows. The both are great sources of protein and vitamins that are very important for the health and growth of children. They will see a few pictures of chickens and cows and what they produce, which is eggs and milk. I will introduce them to how important these two commodities are to our society and how they help the economy and farmers make money. My student are small but they already begin to understand concepts that they are familiar with and begin to make connections because Hatch is a rural community. There is a dairy where some of my student's parents work. Some also talk about going to the "rancho", so they are familiar with some of the jobs related to farming. I will introduce to them these concepts so they can develop a better understanding of why it is important to raise these animals and what they provide. I will also briefly talk about other animals that live on a farm, but can also be found in the wild. The video at the end will have some pictures of a couple animals.

I really enjoyed reading your blog and watching your video. I am pretty sure your students will be very interested and engaged with the content in it. The purpose of this lesson would be achieved very easily because it is very colorful, understandable, and connects them with their real world and living things. Your video-lesson covers valuable healthy facts that students need to learn. The earlier we introduce them to healthy eating habits, the better results in them having a healthier and longer life. This is the type of lessons we need to implement in our classroom, the ones that make sense to them, especially with the little ones that cannot stay focused for long time.
You did an excellent job with your video. It is fun learning.

  2. I agree with what Socorro said and I also enjoyed your video very much. I actually took my students to the Farm and Ranch Museum in Las Cruces and they also do a demonstration on milking the cow. Before we go on fieltrips we have a whole group discussion about what the purpose of our trip is. This way the fieldtrip is a learning process as well. Every year my class will go on the fieldtrip to the Farm and Ranch so I would like to ask you if I can please have a copy of your video. Your video would be an awesome aide in helping me discuss what the purpose of our fieldtrip will be about.
